Quote Of The Week

I thought I would try this new thing where once a week I post a quote. It could be one that inspires me, makes me laugh, or it could be by someone I admire. So this first Quote Of The Week goes out to all my fellow shopaholics!

Also, please consider yourself warned that many of these quotes are sure to be from the fabulous Carrie Bradshaw, since as you know from my post Shoes And The City, she is one of my icons- in all parts of my life!

Boho 2 Ways

So I'm sure you are all aware that Coachella started this past weekend, and since then I've been seeing a lot of Bohemian style outfits on blogs, instagrams, etc. I don't normally go for a very Bohemian look, as it's just not really my style, nor do I think I could pull it off, but I can definitely appreciate it on others (some people were born to wear this style!).

Not only is the Boho trend hot right now because of Coachella, but because the weather is getting warmer, it's easier to wear the fabrics and whatnot that come along with the style (eyelet, crochet, dresses, skirts). So for all of you out there who also admire this style who don't want to go over the top with it (or maybe you do!), I thought I'd show you how to take certain pieces and keep with a more timid Boho look, or take it all the way.

Not So Boho

Both the top and shorts could be worn separately and not look very Boho, so these pieces are also very versatile. The top has a small and simple print that definitely does not overdo it, though worn together they make the perfect toned down Bohemian look.

For the full on boho, trade in the sleeveless chambray shirt for a longer-sleeved one with lots of fringe.

Not So Boho

Again, these trousers have a very simple pattern and also utilizes a monochromatic colour scheme. Paired with a tight black crop top or bustier and chunky necklace would give the outfit a calm look.

To take it all the way, go with a super loose fitting t-shirt and tuck it in to the front of the pants, topping it off with layered, multicoloured bead necklaces and a kimono.

Even though this print is much bolder and folksier than the ones above, it can still be tamed with a structured short.

To take it further, swap the shorts for flowy, satin trousers in an earth tone, and a gold arm bangle.

Not So Boho

A crochet dress on its own is already pretty Bohemian (though it does have a tamer look), so there's not much you can do to tone it down further. Try adding strappy black heels and a slouchy black blazer.

To make this dress Coachella-worthy, though, throw on a denim vest, with brown flat sandals and a matching brown belt.

Colours Of The Wind

So, as promised, I am finally posting my final pictures from my editorial photo shoot! The only requirements were that I incorporate spring/summer 2014 trends and have 6 different looks. I chose to do a monochromatic theme and so I named story Colours Of The Wind. I felt like these bright colours and full-body looks would keep the story very playful and young, which is exactly what I was aiming for; a very fun and innocent feel.

Fashion editorials rarely showcase two seasons of garments, and so I chose to incorporate early spring to late summer garments. I wanted to enforce the idea that spring/summer trends do not just encompass warm weather garments; they can also be worn in heavier garments like a coat or long pants, for the cooler months of the spring. My story starts in the early spring, when the weather isn’t too warm yet, taking the audience through the season as the weather gets warmer. Each shot encompasses garments and props for a different month in the spring and summer seasons. 

Each look contains garments and props that incorporate various spring/summer 2014 trends, such as sheer cutouts, sporty sneakers, crop tops, embellishment, metallic, and other popular trends. So enjoy!

1. March- Blue
Incorporates clothing for cooler weather, like long pants and a coat.

2. April- Pink
Weather is typically very rainy and still pretty cool, so it shows a trench coat and scarf, with long pants again, and an umbrella for the rain.

2. May- White

This is when most people start wearing white again, and so this outfit is all white, with cropped pants and a lighter jacket and shirt.

4. June- Green

Weather is becoming appropriate for shorts and there is a lot of green in nature because summer is officially beginning.

5. July- Orange

This was a beachwear shot, but I was allowed one beauty shot. She is wearing a sun hat, since July is typically the hottest month and when people would most likely be at the beach or pool.

6. August- Yellow

It is a more formal dress, suitable for the office, as a lot of people are starting to think about getting back into the work routine, and also perhaps the last time you would be able to wear this colour before the fall.
