From Fall To Summer

One of my absolute favourite colours this season is by far, cobalt blue. There was a very similar colour in style back in the fall, and the fact that it has lasted through the weather change and can now also be a "summer" colour really makes me happy. It looks good on pretty much everyone, and you can pair it with just about any colour (pink, yellow, light green, and of course the beiges, greys, blacks, and whites, and countless other colours). I have shorts, pants, tops, and tons of accessories in this colour and I don't see myself stopping wearing them anytime soon. I find pairing maxi skirts with crop tops very effective in balancing out the different lengths.

As well, one of my favourite pieces this season is the big hat. Not necessarily a beach hat (you know, straw coloured and woven), but a wool hat that you usually see for fall (albeit, a light wool for the hot summer weather). It looks amazing for a bohemian look, which is my favourite, with a kimono and boots (check out my Instagram to see how I wore it here), but also goes well with numerous other outfits. So here is my cool summer look utilizing fall colours and pieces; it just goes to show how versatile fashion can be!

Cream Of The Crop

Whether tight or loose, casual or dressy, long or short, we can't deny that crop tops are so hot right now. You can wear them so many ways: dress them up or down; matchy-matchy or mis-matched; with skirts or pants or shorts.

I love Lauren Conrad's January 2014 Cosmo cover outfit, because the top and skirt are so mismatched and busy that you actually feel like they do match and are meant to be worn together. This is a much shorter version of a crop top (more of a bustier), but still looks perfect with the skirt. In the editorial inside Lauren wears another cropped look, but this time keeps it much simpler. I love the pop of orange with the studded white skirt.

This trend of crop tops is great because you can wear it to the office or make it more professional by wearing it with a suit. I love the way Zara styled this look on their website. It takes something that can typically be boring like a women's suit, and adds pattern and a twist on the long sleeve top to spice it up. This top is longer than the one Lauren is wearing above, so it's more versatile and appropriate for certain occasions.

I love this matched top and shorts combo. Just the use of colour and pattern make it so perfect for spring. I definitely need to get myself a matching top and bottom set!

If you're looking for something to wear in cooler weather, but still want to follow the cropped trend, you can find a cropped jacket almost anywhere right now. Cropped, boxy jackets were so hot on the spring/summer 2014 runways, and denim jackets never go out of style.

Will you be following the cropped trend this season?

Comic Book Print

I don’t know about you, but my current fashion obsession is the comic book trend. There are t-shirts, dresses, skirts, leggings, accessories, and pretty much any other item out there with a comic book print on it.

I think it takes geek to a whole new level, allowing comic book fans to wear their passion on their own bodies for everyone else to see. And even if you’re not a fan of comic books, the patterns are so cute, how could you resist?

Check out this dress from Topshop,

this ring and sweater from Forever 21,

and these shoes from Black Milk

Now, you’ll want to style this trend just right so you get the perfect look for you. If you want to look more geeky, go with high-waisted pants and sneakers. You can also add in some cute thick-rimmed glasses and suspenders for an extra touch.

For a more sexy look, pair the dress with knee-high boots, and the t-shirt or sweater with leather shorts or leggings and pointy flats. Add a square clutch and a short necklace to make it look even more chic.

Long Weekends

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been crazy busy the last couple weeks. Last weekend was the Canada Day long weekend. I worked all weekend and on Monday my family and I went down to the beaches with our dog. It was the perfect day to sit on a patio and have a beer (which is exactly what we did). We had lunch at the works, an amazing burger joint in Toronto. Check our their website and mind-blowing menu here, I highly recommend!

I went very boho and did an olive green maxi skirt with a striped crop top. I paired the outfit with a long gold necklace and brown gladiator sandals, and to top it off I wore a cute floral side purse.

What did my Canadian readers do for the long weekend? And what do my American readers plan to do for their 4th of July long weekend?
