Oh So Nautical

This was one of the outfit shoots I did at the cottage a few weeks ago. I knew we had a beautiful dock to work with and that I would be able to take pictures right by the lake, and so I wanted to do something that fit in really well with water. And what better for that than a blue and white striped dress with splashed of red (and the life ring!)?

A few years ago when the nautical trend was really starting to make its way into fashion, I learned that a very effective way to pull off the trend was to pair blue and white striped pieces with hints of red or yellow. Those colours really do seem to look the best with stripes, and I have continued to keep that trick in mind even until now. I also heard that adding a brown braided belt with a nautical outfit is reminiscent of ropes on a sail boat, and so that is always a really good thing to add to an outfit like this as well. So for this nautical look I added splashes of red in my clutch and lipstick, and a brown belt and chunky heels. Enjoy! P.S. Can you tell this is one of my favourite purses? (I've now featured it in 3 outfits posts!)

The Bomb Squad

One of my obsessions right now is bomber jackets. I know, just in time for no-jacket weather right? Well, there's still cool summer nights to come so I guess I can still get some use out of them. Bomber jackets are just so versatile; they can look badass in a black leather, feminine in a light floral colour,  and they are a great alternative to a blazer for almost any outfit. There are chic, dressy ones, ones on the more casual side, and ones in between!

Colours Of The Wind

So, as promised, I am finally posting my final pictures from my editorial photo shoot! The only requirements were that I incorporate spring/summer 2014 trends and have 6 different looks. I chose to do a monochromatic theme and so I named story Colours Of The Wind. I felt like these bright colours and full-body looks would keep the story very playful and young, which is exactly what I was aiming for; a very fun and innocent feel.

Fashion editorials rarely showcase two seasons of garments, and so I chose to incorporate early spring to late summer garments. I wanted to enforce the idea that spring/summer trends do not just encompass warm weather garments; they can also be worn in heavier garments like a coat or long pants, for the cooler months of the spring. My story starts in the early spring, when the weather isn’t too warm yet, taking the audience through the season as the weather gets warmer. Each shot encompasses garments and props for a different month in the spring and summer seasons.

Each look contains garments and props that incorporate various spring/summer 2014 trends, such as sheer cutouts, sporty sneakers, crop tops, embellishment, metallic, and other popular trends. So enjoy!

6. August- Yellow
It is a more formal dress, suitable for the office, as a lot of people are starting to think about getting back into the work routine, and also perhaps the last time you would be able to wear this colour before the fall.

I just wanted to say a special thank you to my photographer, hair and makeup artist and model. You guys were amazing and I could not have done any of this without you!
