Mauve Over

One of spring's most popular colour trends for this year is shades of purple, specifically lavender. When I first heard this I was ecstatic, because purple is my favourite colour (as I'm sure you could tell from my blog). I don't necessarily wear a lot of purple (it's not one of the colours that looks the best on me), but it being a colour trend means that I will be able to see it pretty much everywhere and gaze upon its magnificence, which is something I enjoy.

The amazing thing about purple is that is looks good with literally almost any other colour. So you can add accessories or jewelry in another colour if you want to keep your outfit simple (like the pink bag above), or you can colour block and pair your purple piece with another colour (my favourites are yellow, pink, and pastel blue). Here are some of my favourite purple pieces right now!

1. Skirt: Zara
2.  Shorts: Ragged Priest via Topshop
3. Watch: Timex Originals via Hudson's Bay
4. Swimsuit: Target
5. Necklace: Etsy
6. Heels: J. Crew
7. Romper: Rare via Topshop
8. Bag: River Island via ASOS

Also, it seems the purple trend is making it's way into more than just clothing and accessories...

Black And White And Red All Over

This season, black and white is literally everywhere. I love the idea of mixing prints, though I rarely have the pieces (or guts) to actually do it in my own outfits. So when I bought these pants and top, I knew I had to give it a go. And how better to top off a black and white outfit than to add splashes of red?

I found the trick to mixing prints is to keep them the same colour (black and white) or at least in the same colour family, and to mix smaller prints with larger prints (I did big stripes on top and a smaller circular print on the bottom).

Top: Zara
Pants: Old Navy
Clutch: JNB via Marshall Rousso
Necklace: Vintage
Sunglasses: Old Navy (old)
Shoes: Call It Spring

Weekend Highlights

Friday evening I had the amazing opportunity to go to a pre pop up shop for Elan + Castor to view their FW 2014 collection. It was 60s inspired and included some of the most amazing dresses, sweaters, and scarves I've ever seen.

I kept my outfit simple with a black skort and t-shirt but added some colour and pattern with a floral bomber jacket. Later that night, a friend of mine was DJing at a casual bar uptown, so to transition my outfit I swapped my skort for white ripped jeans and flats instead of wedges. I also attached the strap onto my clutch for a more casual bag. This sort of day-to-night transition look was fun because usually you like to be more casual during the day and dressier at night. But mine was a sort of reverse-transition, as my night was a lot more casual. Plus it was nice to put on flat shoes and comfy boyfriend jeans after walking around in wedges and a short skirt.

Saturday I helped on set for a student photoshoot at school. It was a lot of fun to work with a model, makeup artist, and photographers again. Here are some behind-the-scenes shots!

Graffiti

There's a little underpass with some graffiti near my house, so my sister and I decided that would be a cool place for a little photo shoot. I wanted to keep the outfit sort of hipster and urban, and also very simple, hence the black and white theme.

This outfit also includes staple pieces that can be combined with other items to create endless outfits for almost any season.

Black Hat
I believe every girl should have one. They're perfect for topping off a somewhat plain outfit, and also act as a life saver on a bad hair day.

White T
Need I say more?

Black Skirt
This chiffon one is really great for the warmer months- I can pair almost anything with it. But I've also been known to add tights to my outfit in the cooler months if I just can't find a substitute for this skirt (it's one of my favourites).

Denim Jacket
These are so underrated. I'm really glad that denim jackets have been getting more of the credit they deserve lately (you can now find one in any colour in literally any store), but only a few years ago they were considered too 90s, so I'm really happy that trend came back!

Pack It Up

I never would have thought that something so associated with school and academics could become such a fashion trend. It just goes to show that you may never understand fashion or be able to predict it. And even when I first saw this trend I also never thought I would be one to give into it; I just really couldn't wrap my head around it. But there is definitely a new spin on these bags that the ones we used to use in high school didn't have: chicness and sophistication.

You could find a backpack for pretty much any occasion, because of the different materials, styles, and colours they come in. I especially love the leather or faux leather ones, as I feel that they just complete the bag and the look. Here are some of my faves!

Met Gala: Best Looks

The 2014 Met Gala took place on Monday night, and I don't know about you but I loved going through the red carpet photos from the night. Nothing gets me in the New York glamour mood like looking through photos of a huge New York event, and the Met Gala is no exception. This year the theme was White Tie and adornment. Here are some of my favourite looks from the evening.

Not only am I in love with this couple because I am a nerd and love Spiderman, but they are just so adorable and beautiful together, I can't help but love them in real life and on screen. Not all (or many) red heads can pull off pink, but Emma Stone was able to look absolutely gorgeous in two different shades of the colour. I also am a huge fan of her Elsa-esque hairdo. And of course Andrew Garfield looks dashing as always in a metallic grey jacket.

Emma Stone: Thakoon
Andrew Garfield: Band of Outsiders

The ever fabulous Sarah Jessica Parker looked Ã¼ber formal in an Oscar de la Renta black and white gown and white gloves.

Solange Knowles showed off her new pixie cut (which looks just as amazing on her as her wild curls), in a peach-coloured knee length dress. I am absolutely obsessed with this colour in general, as it is very trendy for spring, and it also looks great with her skin tone. Amongst some of the other colours for the evening, Solange definitely stood out.

Though one of a few women not in a gown, Cara Delevigne looks absolutely killer in this black and white combo (although who are we kidding, she looks good in just about anything no matter the occasion).

Cara Delevigne: Stella McCartney

There have been many occasions where Lena Dunham has looked less than fabulous, and it was mostly due to some combination of not being the right colour and/or silhouette for her. But I was so pleased to see that she really owned this dress on Monday night, and I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off quite as well. The shape of the dress (high-low) really flattered her, and the floral embellishments were just so playfully her.

Lena Dunham: Giambattista Valli Couture

Here are some more of my favourite looks from this year's Gala. What were your favourites?

Marion Cottilard: Christian Dior Couture

Taylor Swift: Oscar de la Renta

Chloë Grace Moretz: Chanel Couture

Karolina Kurkova: Marchesa

Emmy Rossum: Carolina Herrera

Amber Heard: Giambattista Valli Couture

Greta Gerwig: Theory by Oliver Theyskens

Suki Waterhouse: Burberry

Jessica Alba: Diane von Furstenburg

Blake Lively: Gucci Premiere
Ryan Reynolds: Gucci
