Colours Of The Wind

So, as promised, I am finally posting my final pictures from my editorial photo shoot! The only requirements were that I incorporate spring/summer 2014 trends and have 6 different looks. I chose to do a monochromatic theme and so I named story Colours Of The Wind. I felt like these bright colours and full-body looks would keep the story very playful and young, which is exactly what I was aiming for; a very fun and innocent feel.

Fashion editorials rarely showcase two seasons of garments, and so I chose to incorporate early spring to late summer garments. I wanted to enforce the idea that spring/summer trends do not just encompass warm weather garments; they can also be worn in heavier garments like a coat or long pants, for the cooler months of the spring. My story starts in the early spring, when the weather isn’t too warm yet, taking the audience through the season as the weather gets warmer. Each shot encompasses garments and props for a different month in the spring and summer seasons.

Each look contains garments and props that incorporate various spring/summer 2014 trends, such as sheer cutouts, sporty sneakers, crop tops, embellishment, metallic, and other popular trends. So enjoy!

1. March- Blue

Incorporates clothing for cooler weather, like long pants and a coat.

Trousers: H&M
Blouse: H&M
Necklace: Target
Clutch: Aldo
Coat: Zara
Ring: Michael’s
Bracelet: H&M

2. April- Pink
Weather is typically very rainy and still pretty cool, so it shows a trench coat and scarf, with long pants again, and an umbrella for the rain.

Jeans: Joe Fresh
Scarf: Lord and Taylor; The Bay
Umbrella: Shoppers Drug Mart
Trench Coat: Jessica; Sears
Wristlet: Jessica; Sears
Ring: H&M

2. May- White
This is when most people start wearing white again, and so this outfit is all white, with cropped pants and a lighter jacket and shirt.

Jeans: Old Navy
Denim Jacket: Old Navy
Necklace: Top Shop
Top: H&M
Watch: Fossil
Ring: Rhoda’s
Sneakers: Keds; Town Shoes
Sunglasses: Claire’s

4. June- Green
Weather is becoming appropriate for shorts and there is a lot of green in nature because summer is officially beginning.

Shorts: Zara
Top: Top Shop
Necklace: Old Navy
Bracelets: Old Navy
Cap: Bijou Accessories

5. July- Orange
This was a beachwear shot, but I was allowed one beauty shot. She is wearing a sun hat, since July is typically the hottest month and when people would most likely be at the beach or pool.

Sun Hat: Nine West; The Bay
Necklace: Top Shop
Bracelet: Joe Fresh
Ring: H&M

6. August- Yellow
It is a more formal dress, suitable for the office, as a lot of people are starting to think about getting back into the work routine, and also perhaps the last time you would be able to wear this colour before the fall.

Dress: Zara
Necklace: Mexx
Bracelets: Old Navy
Bag: Aldo
Heels: Nine West
Ring: H&M
Headband: Wal-Mart

I just wanted to say a special thank you to my photographer, hair and makeup artist and model. You guys were amazing and I could not have done any of this without you!

Weekend Highlights

This past weekend was pretty crazy for my family, but among the better things were the birthdays of two of my favourite people in the world.

 Heels: Call It Spring
Purse: Aldo
Jacket: H&M

Thursday was my mom's 50th birthday, which we celebrated by going out for a nice dinner to an Italian restaurant and which she celebrated later on the weekend by a "grown up" dinner with her friends and other couples. Among the gifts my family got her was a huge wine cup that says "Fabulous 50" (you can also see her love of wine by her birthday cake). For dinner Thursday night, because it is actually finally beginning to feel like spring out, I opted for open-toe heels (one thing I was actually able to cross off my Spring Wish List), with black pants, a paisley patterned top and white blazer. Although I did top it off with a faux fur jacket since it was still a bit chilly out!

The other birthday I celebrated this weekend was that of my best friend. Unfortunately for me she no longer lives in Toronto (she moved to the States last summer), but luckily she did come in for the weekend in order to celebrate her birthday. It was so amazing seeing her and being able to spend time with her, and I hope I get to do it again very soon!

(Friday night drinks at Hey Lucy on King Street)

Have a great week everyone!

Go Team Go

It's not hard to see that the varsity trend is everywhere right now. I was never really into it, as I thought it was very casual (and I've always been one to dress up more), and just too plain for me. But I've been noticing that this trend has a new spin on it, and it's definitely beginning to grow on me. There's pieces that you can dress up, by putting a varsity jacket with wide leg trousers (see below) and adding heels.

Or there's pieces that are already more dressed up for you, such as with sequins or finer fabrics, like this sequin tank and jacket.

I love this baseball T, because it's so basic that you could do almost anything with it (add a statement necklace; keep it casual with boyfriend jeans or dress it up with a skirt and heels) and still be so on trend.

I actually bought this jumper from H&M, I just thought it was so cute and I also got my mom a matching one (her name also starts with an R)!

You can also go the more feminine varsity route with a skirt like the one below, reminiscent of a cheerleader.

Here are just some varsity-inspired accessories that I'm also loving this season!

Weekend Highlights

This weekend was one of the busiest I've had in a really long time, but it was also one of the best! It was off to a great start with a concert Thursday night with my sister, which was absolutely amazing. Friday was spent running some last minute errands for my shoot that was to happen Saturday, like picking up a garment rack and snacks, and then setting up and steaming all the items. Then Friday night I went to a play at a University with a friend from school, which was also incredible.

Saturday was (finally) the day of my editorial photo shoot for school! It went from about 10am until about 4:30pm, and it was so much fun. The photographer, model, and hair and makeup artist were all amazing to work with and we made a really great team. I can't believe after all the planning and shopping that went into it, it's all over in a matter of hours. I already received the proofs from the photographer and everything looks great, I can't wait to receive the final copies.

Saturday night I got to wind down with some friends for a girlfriend's birthday, and even though I was absolutely exhausted from the day, it was so much fun. I hope you all had an amazing weekend too! Here are just some behind the scenes sneak peaks at the shoot, and I can't wait to share the final photos with you all!
